Question: I have ran into some web sites that have .phtml files. It is doing something that I cant see. I view the source and get the source for the page but i still dont know what it is doing. Can you help me?

Answer: (provided by Luke) A .phtml file is most likely a file that has been encoded using PHPEncoder. Basically it encodes the html so you can't view (steal) the source code, and the outputs it using the php engine.

You can find more information here.

Comment by Webmaster: The encryption provided by PHP Encoder is intended to stop purchasers of the original PHP script from being able to modify it or sell it as their own. The encryption has no effect on the generated HTML which of course is as easily stolen as any other html source.
