Changing Comm Port Parameters
Question: I need to configure my serial port by using the mode command. I want to use the XON/XOFF protocol but am unable to set the protocol without having the baud rate reset. How can I set the baud rate and protocol in the command prompt?

Answer: The parameters on the mode command are either positional or can alternatively be identified by name. If you use the positional version of the command then all of the entries need to be specified in order starting with the baud rate. To avoid changing the baud rate specify the parameters by name. To change to use XON/XOFF protocol on the COM1 port you would specify:
mode com1: xon=on
