Question: I have MS Office suite on my computer, and I also downloaded OpenOffice Suite, the open source software program. Although I have Word and Excel on my computer, whenever I open an email attachment, it automatically opens using the Open Office, rather then Word or Excel.
How do I reset my computer so that attachments open using Word or Excel rather than Open Office?
Answer: You need to change the default program for those file types back to the Microsoft program. The simplest way to do this is to select a file that is opening in the wrong program and right click on it. There should be an "Open With" option in the menu. Select that and then select the program that file type should open in. There should be a checkbox to tell the system to make that program the default for that file type.
Alternatively in any folder view select the View Menu and then Options.Then select the "File Type" tab and scroll down to the file type that is opening in the wrong program (eg. Microsoft Word Document) Select Edit then Open then Edit and change the address of the program to run.
