This book fills the gap of telling you how Joomla works - something that isn't obvious from looking at an installed copy
While I have done test installs of Joomla in the past I have never been able to figure out how it works well enough to actually do anything with it. All the questions that I had about how to set up a template, how to create articles, and how to convert existing articles to use Joomla are all answered in this book so I am sure that the next time I decide to give Joomla a try I will be able to get it set up with what I want.
Why not set up a Joomla site now then using the information in the book? Well I have a few reasons why I was considering Joomla and this book not only answers the questions I had about how to actually use Joomla, it also contains enough information about Joomla to tell me that Joomla wouldn't achieve the goal that I have in considering it iin the first place. The book males it very clear that Joomla does not yet support HTML 4 and that it can only support sites transitioning part way between HTML 3.2 and HTML 4. Since moving from that transitional state to using HTML 4 exclusively in my web pages is the main reason that I was considering the move I now know thanks to this book that Joomla 1.6 does not meet my requirements.
All the different features of both Joomla 1.5 and 1.6 are described in detail in this book along with an explanation both of what the Joomla terminology means and what the equivalent Joomla 1.0 terminology was where it has changed. A really useful book for anyone using Joomla or thinking of using it.
