Simply JavaScript

A book for anyone just starting out with JavaScript or who wants to learn how to code JavaScript properly.

My Rating: yesyesyesyesno

JavaScript today is a far different language than it was just a few years ago and many JavaScript books written just a few years ago are now obsolete. This book is an excellent replacement for most of those outdated books.

"Simply JavaScript" covers all of the usual things you would expect to find in a book on JavaScript for beginners. The difference with this book is that it assumes a modern approach involving semantic HTML and unobtrusive JavaScript. Instead of teaching outdated coding methods such as document.write it jumps right into how to code properly with the DOM. The typical uses of JavaScript for animation, form enhancement and Ajax all have their own separate chapter.

This book isn't just good for people who are just starting out to learn JavaScript but is also useful for those who learned the old way of coding JavaScript and now want to learn how to do it properly.
