Only Working One Way

Question: I recently setup a home network with the two computers in my house. One computer is connected using a US Robotics wireless card. After running the network setup wizard, the networks seems to be working fine in one computer but the other, the wireless one, does not. I cannot access the files on the non-wireless computer or share a printer. Would greatly appreaciate any advice you could give me. Thank you.

Answer: If one computer can see the other then the networking itself is set up correctly on both.

The other three parts of the situation with the computers being able to see one anothers folders and printers are:

  1. File and Print sharing needs to be turned on. Check this in Network properties.
  2. Has the specific resource been set up to be shared? Only shared drives/folders/printers can be accessed across the network. To set up a share you right click on the drive, folder, or printer that is to be shared ans select "Sharing" from the menu (you may need administrator access to see that option). You then give the shared object a name and define the level of access and any necessary passwords.
  3. On Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 the user logins for all users of both computers need to be defined to have access to logon in order to see the resources on that computer.
