Ping Responses

Question: While using ping we get "REQUEST TIMED OUT" some times and other times we get "DESTINATION HOST UNREACHABLE". What is the difference between them?
Praveen

Answer: Timeout means one of the following:

  1. A router is down
  2. Destination host is down
  3. No route back to your computer
  4. Respose took too long

Unreachable means that a router on your network or your ISPs network does not contain the entry that provides access to even look for the destination.
