Question: I have a simple question. Is it possible to upgrade from Windows ME to Windows 2000 Pro? Iíve done some research and found that win2k came out before winME, so the upgrade is not supported, but Iíve also read that it is still possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Answer: Windows ME and Windows 2000 Pro are (despite the similarity of names) versions of two completely different operating systems. They are both designed to run the same application programs but the internals of how they work are completely different. It would be quite possible for you to install 2000 onto a system that already has ME on it and doing so will set up a boot menu allowing you to select between them every time that you start the computer. When you do this 2000 will automatically update itself to recognise whatever programs that are installed on ME that it is able to understand (ME is a minor variant of 98 with the biggest changes being the removal of some facilities that were available in 98 but not in ME so you should have about as much success with this as you would in loading 2000 over 98). Any programs that don't run properly from 2000 after the install can be reinstalled over themselves from 2000 so as to update 2000 to recognise them properly.
