Disabling the CD ROM Autoplay
Unlike in Windows 95/98/SE/ME, Microsoft has not provided a simple way to turn off the annoying CD ROM Autoplay option in Windows NT/2000. Instead you will have to edit the registry to disable it.
Click the Start button and select Run. Type in Regedit to start the registry editor.
Now you need to go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001Servicescdrom
You now need to change the value of the Autorun and Start fields from 1 to 0.
You have now completely disabled Autorun and should no longer be annoyed at the wrong program starting automatically whenever you insert a CD.
