Question: I upgraded my computer from windows 98 to XP. Now my system cannot recognize the internet connect. I have DSL and I cant figure out the problem. The message I receive is that my ethernet has failed. I installed the ethernet card and drivers myself about 6 months ago and installed the windows 98 driver. Do I need to install a new card that is compatible with windows XP?
Answer: You cant use a Windows 98 driver with Windows XP as they are two completely different operating systems.
See if you can find a Windows XP driver for your hardware. If you can't find that then look for a Windows 2000 driver (90% likely to work) or Windows NT driver (might work).
