Question: Hi, I just bought the HP a1710n desktop and I would like to add more memory ram can I use any kind of memory or do I have to buy a specific kind? My computer currently has Memory Speed: PC2-4200 (533MHz) Memory Type: DDR2-SDRAM.
Answer: There are a number of different types of memory. The first thing you need to do is to check that the computer actually has available spots for plugging in extra memory and what sort of connectors it uses. You will then need to get memory that fits those connectors and which is compatible with your current memory. You can use memory with a different speed rating but then all the memory will operate at the slower speed.
