Sequential and Partitioned

Question: Could you please tell me the difference between a Sequential dataset and Partitioned Dataset
Anonymous

Answer: A sequential dataset contains information that is accessed sequentially in the order it appears in the file. Something like a bottle of juice where you pour out the juice in the order that it comes out of the bottle. You can't pour out the bottom pices of juice before pouring out all of the juice above it.

A partitioned dataset contains a number of separate logical files each of which can be accessed separately. Something like a carton of eggs. You can choose which egg in the carton you want to use first the same way you can choose which member of the partitioned dataset you want to process independently of the other members.
